      Steeped in history

      Windsor Castle is a royal residence at Windsor and is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world.  Alfred the Great’s historic battle against the Danes was staged at Englefield, and Newbury was the site of two English Civil War battles.

      A sport’s fan dream

      Berkshire is home to Royal Ascot thoroughbred horse racing track, one of the UK’s leading racecourses, with 25 days of racing a year.  Former ice hockey national champions the Bracknell Bees are based in Berkshire, as is Championship football (soccer!) team Reading FC. 

      Riverboating days

      Spend lazy Sundays relaxing on a traditional narrowboat on the 87 miles of waterways on the Kennet and Avon Canal. Experience boat trips, steam engines, a museum, shops and tea rooms along this beautiful stretch of England’s history.
